Immunologist
An immunologist studies the immune system and its responses to viruses and other pathogens and allergens. Many immunologists work on developing vaccines for diseases such as HIV. Vaccines for polio, diptheria, tetanus, and other diseases have already saved millions of lives, and immunologists have earned more than twenty Nobel Prizes for these and other breakthroughs. To be an immunologist, you must have a master’s or Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, or a related subject. Many who study human immunology also have a medical degree (M.D.), while animal immunologists may have a degree in veterinary medicine (D.V.M.).
